The New Year’s celebration in Las Vegas is well known, being the 4th most popular destination in the country for this occasion; At this time, the Strip – the main street in Las Vegas – receives tens of thousands of people, turning into an immense avenue covered with pedestrians to spend the last minutes of the year and celebrate the first minutes of the next.
Every year Las Vegas prepares to welcome millions of tourists at this time of year. There are police, facilities and services for everyone, but if you don’t plan ahead, you could miss out on the attraction you’d most like to go to.
(Remember that New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is pretty much all about adults. Most places only accept people over 21!)
Tip: It’s important to remember that Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert, so it gets very cold at night, especially at this time of year. If you want to celebrate New Year’s Eve on the Strip, dress warmly before going out.
As for hotels, be aware that on December 31 most of them only allow cars to be parked until 5:00pm. For the public, the doors are only open until 11:00pm, reopening after 12:30am. The only public transportation option on the Strip between these hours are the monorails (the little trains that connect some casinos), which run until 3:00am.
This is one of the few times when Americans free fireworks, second only to Independence Day (July 4th) and the traditional Disney fireworks. But don’t be under the illusion that the fireworks will be like the ones at the Copacabana Palace in Brazil. Only eight casinos make the fireworks, so it is recommended to stay as close to the who offer this attraction so that you don’t miss ‘the best of the party’.
The casinos are:
- Aria Resort & Casino
- Caesars Palace
- MGM Grand
- Planet Hollywood
- Stratosphere
- Treasure Island
- Tropicana
- Venetian
In addition to the fireworks display, most of the casinos in the .. Las Vegas Boulervard opens its nightclubs with the presence of famous guests, renowned DJs and big names in world music for exclusive performances. What’s not so attractive is that these nightclubs charge up to four times more on New Year’s Eve than they usually do. You need to plan ahead and book in advance, as demand is very high and some of them only accept table reservations and not the purchase of individual invitations.
