The translation of the Casino Hotel’s name Golden Nugget, in Las Vegas, means exactly one golden nugget (or gold nugget). It’s only fitting that this casino has the greatest example of its namesake.
The nugget, named Hand of Faith(Hand of Faith), is the largest gold gem on public display in the world.
It was discovered in 1980 by Kevin Hillier in Wedderburn, Australia. The nugget was only 06 cm below the ground and was discovered using only a metal detector. It is 47cm x 20cm x 9cm and weighs the equivalent of 27.7 kg.
Hand of Faith is the second largest nugget ever found with a metal detector and is also the largest gold nugget in existence today.
In 1981 the nugget was bought by the casino, where it remains on constant display in the hotel lobby. It can be viewed free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
