Minus 5 – the ice bar in Las Vegas

Minus 5 is a bar where everything is made of ice. It has a different and unusual atmosphere, providing memorable photos and memories. Regardless of the time of year, this is an attraction that certainly deserves to be included on the list of things to do in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is located in the middle of the Mojave Desert and although it is common to associate the desert with drought, a bar made entirely of ice may seem strange, but in fact it adds even more dazzle to the city known as the entertainment capital.

The name says it all: Minus 5 is an ice bar where the ambient temperature is always 5ºC below zero. The place is very different and innovative. Everything there is made of ice: walls, chairs, benches, sculptures, tables, bar, trays and even the glasses.

The experience begins when you arrive at the reception to buy or collect your invitation. Before entering it is necessary to put on the coat and gloves provided by the establishment, plus caps, hats, and scarves that can be bought even before entering.

The small, cozy atmosphere accommodates a limited number of people. Huge sculpted blocks of ice form sofas which, to make them a little more comfortable, are given an animal skin to prevent the ice from freezing those who sit there.

Most of the drinks consist of vodka, which is a strong drink and helps to warm up the body of those inside. However, there are other drinks such as cocktails, beers, wines and juices. The drinks are served in glasses made from New Zealand water ice, which has a property that doesn’t allow it to stick together. Anyone who drinks more than one dose or more than one type of drink will be encouraged to reuse the glass, as it is only used by one person and then melted down and disposed of.

Enjoy the condensation of the hot air coming out of your mouth and giving it a smoky look as you speak. Also take the opportunity to ask for a souvenir photo, remembering that cameras and cell phones are not allowed inside the bar. Only the local photographer can take pictures! Minus 5 exists in four other countries around the world. The original bar was created in New Zealand, and in the United States there is a bar in New York and two in Las Vegas, the largest of which is at the Monte Carlo and the other, a little smaller, at Mandalay Bay. Apart from the size, another difference between them is that at the Mandalay Bay there is another bar outside, allowing you to drink without being in sub-zero temperatures.

Note: Only people over 21 can enter the premises. There is no time limit for staying in the bar.
